In Greek mythology, Calipso was a nymph of the sea, Queen of the island of Ogigia who fell in love with Ulysses, and held him for seven years.

From this story, Don Pietro thought to give the beach the name "Calypso", which, as the goddess retained Ulysses giving him affection and privileges, still today aims to entertain his guests by making them king or queens for at least a day .
